Westlake senior and Cleveland State University recruit Lauren Golick defeated Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame’s Sandy Niehaus Saturday at Elysium Tennis Center, in Columbus, for the Division I state singles tennis title.
Golick lost the first set, 6-4, before rallying back in the second set, winning 7-5. Neihaus, the 2010 state champion and 2011 state runner-up, collapsed in the third set due to cramps, after trailing Golick 5-3, and was forced to default, therefore awarding the championship to Golick.
