Westlake Porter Library seeks new vendor for cafe

By Kevin Kelley

Westlake

The Westlake Porter Public Library Board of Trustees has officially decided to seek a new operator for the recently closed cafe located off the lobby area.

The space had been leased by Picc-a-Deli Cafe until Feb. 1. Picc-A-Deli Cafe at Porter Library first opened in November 2004 and had been popular with library patrons. The space occupied by Picc-A-Deli had always been intended for use as a cafe since the library underwent an expansion and renovation from 1999 to 2002.

The seven-member library board made the decision to seek proposals from potential vendors at its Feb. 20 meeting.

Porter Director Andrew Mangels said many patrons want to see a cafe reopen at the library.

“The comments have been overwhelming that they miss the cafe,” he said.

Mangels also told West Life that there has been interest among potential vendors in operating the cafe. As of Friday, the library already sent out four request-for-proposal packets to interested parties, he said.

The deadline for interested vendors to submit a proposal is 4 p.m. March 21. In addition, all prospective café operators must attend a pre-proposal meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Request for Proposal packets
