You can’t win if you don’t enter.
That’s the message of Jean Smith, the coordinator of Westlake in Bloom, the city’s annual gardening contest.
After a miserable winter, summer has brought warm days and sunshine, Smith said.
“If your garden is beginning to look spectacular, I hope you will enter it in Westlake in Bloom 2014,” Smith tells Westlake gardeners. “With 21 categories available to enter, I am sure one is just right for your garden, whether it is residential, or a business or organization.”
Gardens will be judged the second week of July and awards presented at a ceremony on Aug. 13 at LaCentre Conference & Banquet Facility.
Westlake residents and business owners can download entry forms from the city’s website at www.cityofwestlake.org. Entry forms are also available at Cahoon Nursery, Dean’s Greenhouse, Gale’s Westlake Garden Center and Plant Crafters.
Completed entry forms can be mailed to Westlake in Bloom, City of Westlake, 27700 Hilliard Blvd., Westlake, OH 44145, or dropped off at the reception desk at Westlake City Hall.
The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Friday. Every Hilliard Boulevard flower box, Evergreen Cemetery Memorial Fence garden, and Adopt-a-Bed garden will be entered automatically in the judging, Smith said.
