Five Westlake High School students are National Merit Finalist in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship program.
Thomas Carroll, Jennifer Chern, Kyle Lathem, Caitlin Smith and Kelley Zhou are among the 15,000 students who will now compete for about 8,300 national Merit Scholarships worth a total of more than $34 million. Winners will be announced between April and July.
To advance to Merit Finalist status, students must possess an outstanding academic record, be recommended by the school principal and earn exceptional SAT scores.
More than 1.5 million high school juniors from 22,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2011-2012 National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
