Sheldon Stuckart represented Westlake High School, as a Southwestern Conference wrestling champion, and Team USA at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Lima, Peru, on May 6. The sophomore at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., made this his first international competition as part of Team USA. As the the Junior National Olympic weightlifting champion at 85 kilograms, Stuckart opened with a successful 125 kg snatch, missed 130 kg on his second attempt and then made the same weight on his third. In the clean & jerk, Stuckart opened with a successful 153 kg lift and moved up to 158 kg on his second lift, but was turned down due to "press out." (This is an illegal move where a weightlifter will bend their arms while holding the bar over their head, and then press out to make them straight.) He then missed his third at 160 kg, cleaning the weight, but failing to complete the jerk. Stuckart finished with 283 kg in total for the day, in a three-for-six performance.
