With the conference races beginning next week, this was the final regular season tuneup for Westshore football teams.
Some, like Westlake, look ready to shed their losing ways and make a name for themselves. Others…well, improvement in practice this week will be of the utmost importance for a number of area teams.
Let’s take a look…
North Olmsted 21, Lakewood 17. The Eagles head into the Southwestern Conference wars with a 2-1 record. Head coach Mike Ptacek and his staff are to be commended for pushing aside the pay-to-play woes and having the Eagles ready to compete.
A few less mistakes against Elyria, and North Olmsted would be 3-0.
Mayfield 35, Olmsted Falls 24. Hmmmm….the Bulldogs had a 24-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter, then got outscored 14-0 the rest of the way. You can bet Jim Ryan isn’t one bit happy about that.
Clearview 38, Fairview 13. A recovered fumble in the end zone and a 1-yard scoring run by Nick Williams in the second half was all the Warriors could muster against their future PAC rivals. Fairview goes into its final West Shore Conference season at 1-2.
Independence 42, Lutheran West 34. Last one with the ball wins…well, almost. The Longhorns were down 28-6 at halftime, then rallied with a 21-point explosion in the fourth quarter. Not quite enough as head coach Dave Geye’s crew falls to 0-3.
Kirtland 54, Bay 13. Not a pleasant ride back from the east side for the Rockets, who fall to 0-3. Bay trailed 38-6 at the half…ouch!!!
Amherst 62, Vermilion 9. This used to be a great rivalry game. Instead, it’s our West Life blowout of the night.
Avon Lake 50, St. Jean De Brebeut 0. This game would have qualified for our blowout game of the night but…well, really, a Canadian team? Against the Shoremen? Should never have happened in the first place.
