After 47 years in the catering business, Wagner’s of Westlake has become so much a part of our family celebrations that it is like another member of our family.
“We have hosted more wedding celebrations than any other banquet center in western Cuyahoga County,” Jack Wagner noted. “We treat every wedding like it is our own. After all, we all got married here.”
Opened in 1965 at the corner of Bradley and Center Ridge roads, Wagner’s was founded by Don Wagner and is now operated by his children Jack, Joan and Shirley. Recently remodeled and expanded, the facility has five banquet rooms with two fireplaces, a 26-foot bar, two private outdoor patios and a large garden area. Groups of 50 to 500 people can easily be accommodated. Wagner said the largest party they ever served was a sit-down dinner for 1,100 people. With five banquet rooms, there are sometimes five events going on simultaneously. Wagner’s office staff remains on-site during events so they can attend to every detail.
Over the years, Wagner’s has earned a reputation for food quality. Ingredients are never frozen, canned or microwaved. The kitchen staff is led by French-trained executive chef Jeannot Chicoine, who has been with Wagner’s for more than 20 years. Chicoine’s culinary expertise and attention to detail have contributed to Wagner’s success. In addition to weddings, the center hosts business meetings, bridal and baby showers, fundraisers, after-funeral brunches, class reunions, proms and other school functions. It is the site of Mrs. Claus’ Closet, the annual holiday shopping fundraiser for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
Wagner’s experienced event coordinators can assist in planning any type of party or family occasion. The catering facility offers a wide selection of hors d’oeuvres from which to choose and meals ranging from plated dinners to a grand buffet. A variety of quality liquor packages and bar service are available. Wagner’s also provides linens, china and stem glassware.
Thousands of Clevelanders have attended the legendary buffet dinners served on Easter, Mother’s Day and New Year’s Eve. This year, Wagner’s may also be offering a Father’s Day buffet. “It’s amazing. These buffet events are a tradition with so many families,” Charles Shimola of Wagner’s said. “We expect to serve more than a thousand people at our Mother’s Day buffet.”
The Mother’s Day event on May 12 will include a meal of carved roast beef and baked ham, turkey with dressing and cranberry sauce, country-fried chicken, pork, sauerkraut and kielbasa, white fish with lemon sauce, breakfast specialties, assorted side dishes and salads and a dessert table. There will be live musical entertainment. The cost is $27.95 plus tax for adults and $14.50 for youngsters 2 to 10 years of age. Phone 440-871-8800 for reservations. Wagner’s is at 30855 Center Ridge Road in Westlake.
