You will have a chance to test your singing skills starting Thursday at the Ironwood Cafe in Westlake. The Ironwood Idol Karaoke Competition will take place every Thursday through March 14, from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will be a guest panel of judges each week, and customers will have an opportunity to vote for their favorites.
Bonus points will be awarded for “Golden Ticket” votes. Prizes will be awarded for weekly winners. Finalists, competing March 7-14, can win the grand prize of a trip for two to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, with dinner and a show. The second-place winner gets an iPad, and third place is $100 cash. Contestants must sign up one week prior to performing. The last day for sign-up is Feb. 28. The Ironwood Cafe has been cleaning out the wine locker, searching for orphan bottles of wine that have been getting better with age. As a result, a Hodgepodge Wine Dinner is planned for 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Copper Cup catering facility. The evening’s menu begins with an oyster shooter appetizer and a sampling of Teltarni sparkling wine. Frei Brothers zinfandel accompanies peppercorn duck breast with cider demiglace and fennel apple slaw. Beef sirloin with port reduction and wasabi mashers is being served with Ghost Pines cabernet sauvignon. Ghost Pines zinfandel will complement the lamb “lollipop,” and the Ghost Pines red blend will be enjoyed with the smoked pork quesadilla. Red Rabbit sweet red wine is being served with a dessert of assorted pastries. Tickets are $35 per person, plus tax and tip. Reservations are required by calling 440-835-9900. An OYO Food and Spirits Tasting takes place at Two Bucks North Olmsted, 24108 Lorain Road, at 7 p.m. Jan. 17. A representative from Middle West Spirits, producer of OYO vodkas and whiskey, will attend. Middle West Spirits is an urban microdistillery in Columbus. The evening at Two Bucks will include a tasting of various OYO products with dinner pairings by chef Brian McNeff. Cost is $25 a person. Phone 440-716-8267 for reservations.
Zack Bruell Restaurant Week is actually a two-week celebration of fine food, from Jan. 13-26. Chef Bruell is offering a three-course dinner for $30 at each of his restaurants, including Parallax, Table 45, L’Albatros, Chinato and Cowell & Hubbard, with menus customized to each restaurant. Guests can choose an appetizer of winter vegetable tart, winter garden salad or local pork and rabbit terrine. Entree selections are farro with winter vegetables, market fish or braised beef short ribs with polenta. Dessert choices are Meyer lemon tart and creme caramel. Reservations are recommended.
