Brewmaster Andy Tveekrem of Market Garden Brewery and former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar have teamed up to create a new favorite fall seasonal named Bernie Beer.
While visiting Market Garden Brewery, Kosar tossed out the idea to brew an authentic craft beer that celebrates the arrival of football season in Cleveland. Tveekrem suggested calling the brew Bernie Beer to celebrate the local sports legend. A few high fives later, and the deal was sealed. Market Garden Brewery kicked off Cleveland’s football season on Sept. 4 with the first batch of the hoppy amber ale. Kosar was on hand to autograph Market Garden’s new Bernie Beer apparel. The beer will be available at the brewery before landing at Heinen’s.
At Kosar’s request, a portion of the proceeds from Bernie Beer will be donated to the Play It Forward Foundation. The foundation supports events and community involvement across the country to promote the idea of random acts of kindness for others. It encourages those who are helped through their community to go forward and help others.
Other customer favorites on tap at Market Garden Brewery this month are Old Zahm Oktoberfest and Franklin Castle Pumpkin Spiced Ale. Franklin Castle ale is named after one of Ohio City’s most haunted houses, Franklin Castle. The autumn concoction is brewed with cinnamon, ginger, allspice and nutmeg, making it a great drink to warm up with as the season cools.
Market Garden Brewery is hosting “The West Side Market: 100 Years and Still Cooking” dinner with author Laura Taxel on Sept. 18. The four-course dinner includes beer pairings. Prior to dinner, guests will tour the Market Hall with Taxel and will receive an autographed copy of the book about the historic market that she co-authored with Marilou Suszko.
