Pacific Theater war dog remembered for bravery

For her bravery 60 years ago, Australia’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ presented Smoky with its most prestigious animal bravery award, the Purple Cross Award. Rocky River Mayor Pam Bobst made the presentation to Smoky’s owner Friday on behalf of the Aussie organization.

WWII war dog to receive Australian animal award

Smoky, a Yorkshire terrier who served with U.S. Army Air Corp personnel in the Pacific Theater of World War II, will be honored Friday with Australia’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ most prestigious animal bravery award.
