Fire department to replace aging ladder truck

Westlake City Council voted unanimously Thursday to spend $895,000 on a new ladder truck and related equipment for the fire department. The new vehicle will replace a similar unit that has been in service for 24 years. The city also owns a second ladder truck, a 2002 unit that will remain in service. With the purchase, the Westlake fire department will continue to possess two ladder trucks.

Bigfoot exists, lives in Ohio, researcher says

Marc DeWerth first became interested in bigfoot in the 1970s while watching an episode of “In Search Of…,” the TV program narrated by Leonard Nimoy that explored the paranormal. While watching the program, DeWerth’s grandfather told him of reported Bigfoot sightings in Ohio. Shortly afterwards, he came across a 1978 book by Canadian Bigfoot researcher John Green entitled “Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us” in the Hilliard Elementary School library.

Appeals court grants Westlake’s request for tax abatement refund

Law Director John Wheeler said the city will attempt to collect nearly $360,000 in tax abatement dollars it claims were forfeited after the company granted the abatement left town.
