Westlake Kiwanis raising money for new police dog

Westlake Kiwanis is raising money for the police department to not only replace its K-9, Chico, but also purchase two additional dogs. Police spokesman Capt. Guy Turner said the department would like one dog for each shift.

Students at St. Bernadette mark Catholic Schools Week

Today is Spirit Day at St. Bernadette School. Students participating in winter sports will be honored at a pep rally, and eighth-graders will challenge teachers in a volleyball game.

Crocker Park shows off Market Square pavilion

Located a block west of Trader Joe’s grocery store, Market Square consists of a park-like area and a building featuring more than 8,500 square feet of exhibit space that can host concerts, art shows and wedding receptions. The city of Westlake owns Market Square, but a subsidiary of Crocker Park operates the building and rents it out when it’s not reserved for city use.

Failure to communicate leads to unproductive Verizon meeting

Lacking a list of available city-owned properties, Verizon officials siad they could come up with a plan but it would not take into consideration Westlake’s zoning regulations or whether any potential tower site would be available to build on.
