Fight suspect had juvenile record

DeAndrew Smith was charged with felonious assault in connection with the injuries inflicted on a 17-year-old junior April 12. According to court documents, Smith grabbed the victim around his torso and slammed him “head first into the concrete floor of the high school bathroom.” The resulting injuries, the documents said, included “a fractured skill and bleeding of the brain.”

Assisted living facility proposed for former trailer park

A developer is hoping to build a 100-bed assisted living facility at the site of a former trailer park. Omni Property Companies is seeking a conditional use permit for the facility, which it intends to build on land formerly occupied by Schneider’s Mobile Homes, located between Westwood and Center Ridge roads.
