In a shocking development, the Southwestern Conference football race will come down to the final week.
Heading into Week 10, Amherst, Avon Lake and Olmsted Falls are all 5-1. That scenario is all because of a number of eyebrow raisers Friday night.
First of all, Falls knocked Amherst from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 17-14 win at home. These two teams historically have a knack of knocking each other off when the chips are on the table, so this win by the Bulldogs is no surprise.
Out at Brecksville, the Bees grabbed a 14-0 halftime lead and held on for a 21-14 win. That handed the Shoremen their first SWC loss heading into their season finale with…
Amherst, of course.
Never mind all of the computer points gained and lost Friday night. It’s a virtual free-for-all heading into Week 10. And Westlake, still clinging to playoff hopes, rallied for a 12-10 win over visiting Midpark.
Speaking of playoffs, Rocky River remained a player with a 28-27 win at North Ridgeville. With Avon Lake, Westlake, Olmsted Falls, River and Ridgeville all in Division II, Region 6, fans can easily see what is at stake in the final week of the regular season.
Amherst-Avon Lake. Brecksville coming to Westlake. River hosting Fairview, a team that gave unbeaten Avon all it could handle.
And if you love the little schools, Lutheran West will host Columbia with a shot to sneak in the DV playoffs.
Hold on to your hats, Westshore football fans.
And, of course, enjoy.
