Suspect arrested in related BP robbery, Bridlewood car theft

By Jeff Gallatin

North Olmsted

A North Olmsted man has been arrested and charged with the theft of a senior citizen’s car from the Bridlewood Apartments and the robbery of a nearby BP station at knifepoint a short time later Jan. 20.

Luke Tanner, 20, who had been staying with a relative at the apartments, was arrested by officers Thursday night.

Detective Sgt. Bob Wagner said officers had indicators the same man committed both crimes.

“The descriptions we got seemed to match up,” Wagner said.

He said the incidents began shortly before 8 p.m. when a senior citizen at the Bridlewood Apartments was accosted by man who appeared to be in his 20s.

“When the older man was going into the apartments the other man approached him,” Wagner said. “He said the younger man ended up taking his car keys from him and leaving in the older man’s vehicle.”

A few minutes later at 7:57 p.m., Wagner said the department received a call that the BP gas station at the corner of Lorain Road and Great Northern Boulevard had been robbed at knifepoint. He said one man went into the business, went behind the counter and threatened the clerk with a knife.

“He demanded the cash from the register and proceeded to take it out of the register,” Wagner said. “He then left the business and then left the area in a gray Honda, which matches the description of the vehicle which was taken from the man at the Bridlewood Apartments.”

Wagner said officers were able to examine security videotape from the business and saw that the man who committed the robbery had a hoodie and appeared to be a man in his 20s, like the one described by the victim at the Bridlewood Apartments.

“It looks like he did one right after the other,” Wagner said.

Wagner said in investigating possible links, they found the suspect was staying with a relative at the apartments. He said the department is continuing the investigati0n to see if any additional charges should be filed.

Wagner said both victims were shaken by the incidents but did not suffer any serious injuries.
