When Westlake police officer Jason Dancy, a captain in the Ohio National Guard, was sent to serve in Afghanistan in April, it was hard for his three young sons to understand.

As he told WKYC-TV Channel 3 News, Dancy explained he was going to fight bad guys there. So they saw him as a super-hero.

On Friday, Dancy’s sons – Jackson, Nate and Ryan – were invited to the Westlake police station to meet some superheros, actually employees and friends of a local company called Unite This City. The surprise for them was that, along with Captain America, Supergirl and other superheroes, their favorite superhero – their dad – was there.

After six months apart, Dancy, his wife, Jill, and the three boys were reunited. Video of the reunion can be viewed on the Channel 3 News website at wkyc.com.

Dancy will return to patrol duty with the police department Nov. 1.
