Avon Lake boys lacrosse meeting tonight
The Avon Lake Lacrosse Club will host an informational meeting for parents and players interested in learning more about the boys grades 5-6 and 7-8 lacrosse programs on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. Youth lacrosse is a spring sport. Registration for the spring 2014 season will start soon after the meeting. The meeting will take place at the Avon Lake Old Firehouse Community Center (Corner of Rt. 83 and Lake Road). Youth wrestling club
The new Avon Lake Wrestling Club will conduct information meetings and sign-ups for youth wrestlers Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Avon Lake High School Commons Area. The club is open to any child age 5 and older. In a short time the fledgling non-profit club has managed to assemble an impressive team of accomplished coaches and dedicated parents with many years of wrestling experience, including: Head biddy/youth club coach Marcus Effner, a state champion at Garfield Heights and a two-time NCAA qualifier; assistant varsity coach Anthony Coleman, a state champion at Bellevue and a two-time NCAA qualifier; and head varsity coach Nick Mayer, a two-year starter at Ohio University; as well as local standouts and long time Learwood Coaches Scott Peepers and Don George. Practices will begin the week of Oct. 28. Students in grades K-2 will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m.; 3rd-6th graders will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. Cost for the youth biddy season is $100, which includes a singlet, T-shirt, shorts, matches for the season, two open tournaments and several wrestling clinics. There is also a year-round program which includes additional clinics, US freestyle card, and registration to freestyle and folkstyle tournaments available for $200. Village Foundation Heritage Run
The fourth annual Heritage Run will take place Oct. 19 through beautiful Bay Village to benefit the Village Foundation’s work in supporting non profit community endeavors. Show your support by bringing the family and joining us for the walk or the run. The annual Village Foundation 5K run/ 1 mile walk begins at Cahoon Memorial Park at 9 a.m. Preregistration is available on line at www.hermescleveland.com for $20, or $25 in person on the day of the race. Packets will be available for pickup Oct. 19 at 7:30 a.m. at Cahoon Park. The first 350 participants will get a cool, dry-tech, athletic shirt. Funds collected will be used to support the work of many not for profits groups. Cahoon Memorial Park is at the north end of Dover Center Road.
Varsity lacrosse coach needed
Rocky River High School is looking for varsity boys lacrosse head and assistant coaches, and an assistant junior varsity girls basketball coach. Applicants must have SRFA, CPR, NFHS and Fundamentals of Coaching certifications.
