The 21st annual Classic at Mastick 5K run supporting The Classic at Mastick College Scholarship Fund will be Aug. 14 at the Mastick Woods Picnic Area in the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks. The event is an excellent preseason tuneup for cross country teams, challenging for seasoned runners and easy for leisurely runners. Only 550 entries will be accepted, so register today. Entry fee is $20. Last year, the event surpassed the $100,000 mark in scholarship awards. The race is once again expected to sell out, and registration will close when that happens. The annual Ohio Girls Golf Foundation Open will take place July 15 at Avon Oaks Country Club in Avon. Headlined by LPGA tour professional Barb Mucha, the event includes an interactive clinic, 18-hole tournament and awards presentation for individual low gross and best team. The OGGF invites all female high school players to participate in this year’s event, including seniors who have just graduated and incoming freshmen. New athletes are being sought to join Gaelic football, a sport originating in Ireland that blends the contact of rugby, the agility of soccer and the skills of other field sports to deliver a high-scoring, dynamic game. Practices are currently held outdoors Tuesdays at Impett Park in the West Park neighborhood of Cleveland from 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday’s practices are held at the West Side Irish American Club in Olmsted Falls from 1-2:30 p.m. Once the season begins, training remains on Tuesdays at Impett and practices at the West Side Irish American Club take place Thursdays in preparation for Saturday matches.
