The 21st annual Classic at Mastick 5K run supporting The Classic at Mastick College Scholarship Fund will be Aug. 14 at the Mastick Woods Picnic Area in the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks. The event is an excellent preseason tuneup for cross country teams, challenging for seasoned runners and easy for leisurely runners. Only 550 entries will be accepted, so register today. Entry fee is $20. Last year, the event surpassed the $100,000 mark in scholarship awards. The race is once again expected to sell out, and registration will close when that happens. Rocky River High School is looking for a varsity diving coach. Applicants must have SRFA, CPR, NFHS and Fundamentals of Coaching certifications. The 4oth Annual Phil Bova Baseball Camp will be held June 17-21 at the Westlake Recreation Center. The camp features an outstanding staff with more than 200 combined years of experience. Professional, college and high school coaches will be on hand daily, providing individual instruction for all age levels, along with six batting cages in use daily and a “Competition Day” to evaluate campers in throwing, hitting and bunting. Games will be played daily on seven fields. Every camper gets a hat and shirt, and a Best Camper plaque will be awarded in each age group.

Lunch is provided daily. Guest speakers will be on hand to share their expertise. Each camper will have a professional camp photo to take home. There will be inside demonstration instruction during inclement weather. The ratio of staff to campers is 1:10.

Camp Schedule and Information
The planned daily schedule will have a morning session and then two sessions in the afternoon. You will then be able to apply what you learned at camp to your games afterward. A typical day will be as follows: 8:15 a.m. – arrive at Westlake baseball field ready to play; 11:20 a.m. – lunch provided; 12:30 a.m. – back on field for instruction; 1 p.m. – instructional age group games; 2:30 p.m. – individual instruction or stations; and 4 p.m. – depart for the day. Camp cost: $235.00 per camper. Includes instruction and lunch for all five days, shirt, hat, camp photo and evaluation. What to bring:Glove; baseball shoes or tennis shoes; water bottle; bat; practice pants; personal attire (socks, supporters, etc.). New this year are team discounts. Get 10 or more players from your team to register for camp, and each player will receive $35 off. That’s a savings of over $350 for your team.
