The Westlake Recreation Department has announced its spring-summer coed bocce league. The league will play on Tuesday nights for seven weeks, plus playoffs, starting May 28. Game times will be at 6 and 7 p.m. Entry fee is $100 for each team of four. Deadline to enter teams is May 17. For more information, call Jim Dispirito at 440-617-4420.

The Magnificat Blue Streaks Through River 5K Run and Walk to support the Angels in Blue Fund will take place May 26 at 8 a.m. The Angels in Blue Fund is set up to help Magnificat families in need with school-related expenses, such as retreat fees and uniform expenses. The primary fundraiser for this fund is none other than the annual Blue Streaks Through River 5K, held in May each year. Last year, $4,835 was provided from this fund to help families, and they hope to raise more this year. The Blue Streaks Through River 5K is a great way for families and friends to have some healthy fun together while supporting the Magnificat school community in a meaningful way. Dust off those running shoes, wear your blue and white with pride and join them on May 26 to run or walk the Blue Streaks Through River 5K. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. The lead sponsor of this year’s race is Flynn Insurance Group, owned by alumna board member Anne Nicole Flynn, ’99. Other sponsors include First Merit Bank and Friedman, Domiano and Smith LLC. Registration is open at www.hermescleveland.com/roadracing/events/magnificat.asp. The first 200 registrants will receive race T-shirts designed by a Magnificat student. Adding to the excitement of the Blue Streaks Through River 5K will be our first Fair Trade Farmer’s Market, which will take place from 8 a.m. -12 p.m. The market is being organized by Magnificat’s Fair Trade Family, a student group committed to supporting fair trade initiatives. Magnificat has been recognized by Fair Trade USA as the fourth Fair Trade High School in the country because of our commitment to values and support of businesses that promote dignity of work and rights of workers. Please support Magnificat by joining us for the race, and remember to bring shopping bags to pick up delicious, local produce and products!

The Dara Hosta – Olmsted Spirit 5K Race/Walk will be held May 25. Race day registration and check-in will be at Olmsted Falls High School in Olmsted Falls from 7 to 8:30 a.m. for the 5K race and two-mile walk. Free refreshments and breakfast buffet will be available. All participants will receive a T-shirt and raffle ticket for a chance to win free prizes from area businesses. All money raised, after expenses, goes toward college scholarships for Olmsted Falls High School seniors who have shown their school and/or community spirit by the activities they were involved in during their lifetime. Registration forms are available at the Olmsted Falls branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, Olmsted Community Center, Olmsted Falls branches of PNC Bank, First Federal of Lakewood and Lorain National Bank. Magnificat High School is accepting resumes for assistants in the girls soccer program. Applicants should have previous playing or coaching experience at the high school, club or recreation levels. Applicants must be able to take Virtus training, Fundamental of Coaching, CPR, Pupil Activity Certification and an FBI/BCI background check. The 4oth Annual Phil Bova Baseball Camp will be held June 17-21 at the Westlake Recreation Center. The camp features an outstanding staff with more than 200 combined years of experience. Professional, college and high school coaches will be on hand daily, providing individual instruction for all age levels, along with six batting cages in use daily and a “Competition Day” to evaluate campers in throwing, hitting and bunting. Games will be played daily on seven fields. Every camper gets a hat and shirt, and a Best Camper plaque will be awarded in each age group.

Lunch is provided daily. Guest speakers will be on hand to share their expertise. Each camper will have a professional camp photo to take home. There will be inside demonstration instruction during inclement weather. The ratio of staff to campers is 1:10.

Camp Schedule and Information
Our planned daily schedule will have a morning session and then two sessions in the afternoon. You will then be able to apply what you learned at camp to your games afterward. A typical day will be as follows:

8:15 a.m.                       Arrive at Westlake Baseball Field ready to play
11:20 a.m.                     Lunch provided
12:30 a.m.                    Back on field for instruction
1 p.m.                            Instructional age group games
2:30 p.m.                      Individual instruction or stations
4 p.m.                           Depart for the day

Camp Cost: $235.00 per camper. Includes instruction and lunch for all 5 days, shirt, hat, camp photo and evaluation.

What to Bring: Glove; baseball shoes or tennis shoes; water bottle; bat; practice pants; personal attire (socks, supporters, etc.).

New this year are team discounts. Get 10 or more players from your team to register for camp and each player will receive $35 off. That’s a savings of over $350 for your team. The Lake Erie Crushers are pleased to announce their fourth annual Summer Baseball Camp series at All Pro Freight Stadium. The baseball camps will focus on the fundamentals of the game, including position-specific training, from professional athletes and coaches of the Crushers. The camps are designed for kids ages 6-14. At the beginning of each day, Crushers players and coaches will separate campers based on their position and/or age level.

The Crushers will host four two-day camps this summer. The dates for the 2013 camps are as follows:

• Camp 1: Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12

• Camp 2: Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26

• Camp 3: Tuesday, July 23, and Wednesday, July 24

• Camp 4: Wednesday, Aug, 14, and Thursday, Aug. 15

Each camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For $75 per camp, campers will receive a 2013 Baseball Camp T-shirt, a Crushers logo baseball for post-camp autograph session and one general admission ticket voucher for a 2013 home game.
