Crushers seek new host families for 2013 season
The Lake Erie Crushers are once again seeking friendly families to open their homes to host a player for the 2013 season. The host family program is a great way for families to get involved with the community and with the Crushers organization. This unique program rewards both the participating families, as well as the Lake Erie Crushers players. Once the players arrive in the community in the beginning of May, they quickly start training for opening day on May 17. The players will have very little down time with spring training, long games and long road trips, and all they require of their host family is to provide a warm living space, a roof over their heads and a welcoming home. If getting involved with the Lake Erie Crushers organization is something that interests you, please call Kim Deanovic at 440-934-3636 for more information; or you can fill out an application and e-mail it to Kdeanovic@lakeeriecrushers.com.

Magnificat High School will hold a “Red Out” for the girls basketball game between the Blue Streaks and visiting St. Joseph Academy tonight at 7 p.m. Rather than blue and white on one side of the court facing purple and yellow on the other, this year there will be red in the stands to bring awareness of heart disease. Teams, students and community members are encouraged to purchase and wear a Red Out event T-shirt to school, work and to the game in honor of loved ones and to support the American Heart Association. T-shirts can be purchased at the game and at Magnificat for a $10 donation to the American Heart Association. For more information, contact the American Heart Association youth market representative, Michael Long, at Michael.long@heart.org or visit www.heart.org, or Magnificat’s director of parent and student activities, Mrs. Julie Sims Gibbons, at jgibbons@magnificaths.org.
