Lutheran West girls basketball

An early season match-up of last season’s Patriot Athletic Conference divisional winners failed to live up to the hype Saturday as Keystone used a 22-point second quarter to defeat Lutheran West 50-35.

Lindsay Thomas led the Longhorns with 15 points, including three, 3-pointers but it was the Wildcats long distance shooting that set the tone for the night.

Keystone’s Emily Nagy and Emily Kolar each hit four, 3-pointers. Nagy was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points.

“We just weren’t able to double down on No. 42 (Nagy),” Lutheran West coach Josh Campbell said. “We played a triangle and two defense to stop their inside game and they just kept knocking down three pointers.”

It was a tough week for the Longhorns (0-2) who opened the season with a last Tuesday with a 60-39 loss at Gilmour Academy.

Junior forward Ari Tomasula led the Longhorns with eight rebounds.

Campbell expects his team to make a quick turnaround from its early season struggles.

“God has a plan for us and sometimes it is humbling,” he said. “But we know we have a lot of potential and we will be better for playing these tough opponents early.”
