Spend a day touring the vineyards of Northeast Ohio

Spend a day in the vineyards of Northeast Ohio with Fresh Fork Market, as it hosts its third annual Ohio Wine Country Tour on June 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The agricultural tour is designed to help participants understand the nuances of growing grapes in Ohio, making wine, pairing wine with food and operating a retail wine business. Fresh Fork owner Trevor Clatterbuck said the $83 per person tour price includes bus transportation, water and snacks, a wine tasting at each of four stops and a three-course catered lunch in the vineyard paired with wine. The tour begins and ends at Civilization Coffeehouse, 2366 W. 11th St. in Tremont.

Each stop along the tour lasts about an hour and a half. The first winery is Markko Vineyards. Owner Arnie Esterer will be there to greet tour goers at 10 a.m., and he will talk about the agriculture of growing grapes. Wine tasting will begin at 11 a.m., by Ohio law.

South River Vineyard is the noon stop. Owner Gene Seigel will address the microclimate of Northeast Ohio. The Grovewood Tavern will serve lunch in the vineyard, weather permitting, or in the wine room, with wine pairings.

Next on the agenda is Laurello Winery at 2:15 p.m., where attendees will learn about turning grape juice into wine. A stop at Debonne Vineyards at 4 p.m. will address the winery as a tourism attraction. Guests will get to sample beer from the on-premise Cellar Rats Brewery. The Debonne Jazz Festival will be in progress, so you can enjoy some great jazz entertainment.
