Friends For The Community Foundation are sponsoring the first annual Public Safety Charity Softball Tournament, which began Friday and will culminate with a championship game on Sunday (Aug. 28) at 4 p.m. All games will take place on Field 2 at the North Olmsted Community Park, 5155 W. Park Dr., in North Olmsted.
The tournament will feature teams from the Westshore communities of Bay Village, Fairview Park, Olmsted Township and Westlake. Each team will be comprised of members of the public safety forces from each community and will play in a double elimination style format event. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Westshore CERT and Olmsted CERT Programs.
“I believe this is an excellent opportunity for members of the community to support and cheer for our local public safety forces in an event that that will be fun to watch and will raise money for an organization that provides much needed emergency services,” said Cuyahoga County Councilmember Dave Greenspan, one of the organizers of the event.
The tournament will conclude at 4 p.m. Sunday with pre-game championship game activities that include a performance from the Cleveland Pipe and Drum Corp, presentation of the Colors by the North Olmsted VFW post, the singing of the National Anthem by Kalee Shaver and ceremonial first pitches. At the conclusion of the game an awards ceremony is scheduled where trophies will be presented and a check to CERT.
