GOOD WORK ETHIC: Three Rocky River High School students were nominated to receive the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce-Lakewood/ Rocky River Sunrise Rotary Work Ethic Award for outstanding performance in their West Shore Career-Technical District program.

Recognized at a luncheon on Feb. 24 at the Lakewood Park Women’s Pavilion were James Henry (Service Occupations Training); Cheyenne Smith (Culinary Arts/ProStart); and Nicole Matthews (Interactive Media).

 

SWEET MUSIC: Rocky River High School senior Allison Monahan was chosen, for the second year, for the 2012 Ohio All-State Choir, which performed at the Ohio Music Education Association conference on Feb. 17. She is one of six RRHS students to have been chosen for the 150-member choir over eight of the past 10 years. Monahan was selected by blind audition. The conductor was Michigan State University’s David Rayl, director of the graduate program in choral conducting.

 

POPPIN’ UP: This month Embellish, 19051 Lake Road, welcomes pop-up shops Simply Deneen Photography, by Deneen Koehler, and Erika Originals, jewelry by Erika Hansen. The three proprietors will host “Walk the Red Carpet” for girls ages 6-9 on March 11 from 1-3 p.m. Participants can model jewelry, hats, bags and more. Cost is $20 and includes two hair combs for decorating, and a 5×7 picture. The businesses are also hosting Operation Easter Basket to benefit the Leprechaun Foundation. Baskets go to pediatric patients at MetroHealth Medical Center and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Filled baskets and donations can be dropped off at Embellish through April 1.

 

DANCE SHOW: Magnificat High SChool will hold its dance concert on March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the school center for performing arts. Featured will be award winning performances by by the Magnificat Dance Team and other talanted dance students. Solos, ensembles and large group numbers from a variety of genres will be performed. Cost os $5 at the door. Ages 10 and under are free.
