Rocky River High School senior Erin Kehn has accepted an athletic scholarship to play lacrosse at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich.

Kehn had thoughts of attending many schools, including Pennsylvania’s Edinboro and Theil colleges, and Berea’s Baldwin-Wallace College, but it was Siena Heights that won out.

“I really like the coach a lot (at Siena Heights), and when I did my overnight (stay) with the girls, they were just so welcoming,” Kehn said. “I want to major in education, and that is the top major there.”

She is a midfielder for the Pirates girls lacrosse team, and in 2011, she helped lead the program to the state final four, in only the third year of the program.

“We are delighted that Erin has received this scholarship and recognition,” said Rocky River varsity lacrosse coach Lindsey Cooke. “This is an outstanding way to bring positive attention to grow our lacrosse program.”

Kehn is in her eighth year playing lacrosse, which is growing in popularity in the Westshore high schools.

“My friend’s mom, Kim Russell (B-W women’s lacrosse head coach – see her profile in the Feb. 29, 2012, issue of West Life News or online at www.westlifenews.com in the sports archives), started the Rocky River youth lacrosse program, and she got me started playing and has helped me with everything, including the recruiting process.”

Kehn likes that Siena Heights is a smaller school, with only around 2,000 students.

“I’ve always wanted to go to a small school,” she said. “It’s a Catholic school, also – I’m Catholic – and I’ll be doing a ministry program there. Siena Heights was always my No. 1 school.”

She will serve as the Pirates’ team captain this season. She maintains a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and also was a member of the varsity girls soccer team, and is active in Key Club and Environmental Club at Rocky River High School.

Kehn is the second Rocky River student to receive an athletic scholarship in women’s lacrosse.
