Local runners and walkers will have a chance to make a hit at the Indians’ home, Progressive Field.
Online registration is now open for the inaugural Run For Recovery, a 5K run/one-mile walk at Progressive Field on Sept. 28. The event’s theme, “Together on the Pathways to Wellness,” celebrates September as “Recovery Month.”
The routes for the run and walk are entirely within Progressive Field and include concourses, ramps and the warning track on the field. Start times will be staggered, with the 5K beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the one-mile Fun Walk at 9:30 a.m.
There is a $20 registration fee for runners signing up by Aug. 20. After that, the entry fee will go up to $25, and $30 the day of the race. The Fun Walk cost is $15 until race day.
A family-of-four rate of $60 is available online only until Sept. 24. Online registration will close that day at 9 p.m.
Participants can pick up their race packets on Sept. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Recovery Resources, 3950 Chester Ave. (rear entrance off of East 40th Street) or on Sept. 28 at 7 a.m. at Progressive Field, Gate A.
The first 500 entrants will receive a T-shirt, and all participants will get refreshments after the race.
The Cleveland Indians, a sponsor of the event, will provide mascot hot dogs Ketchup, Mustard and Onion to race along with the runners and walkers. Other sponsors include Exactcare Pharmacy, Lazorpoint and Stellar Benefits Group.
All proceeds will benefit Recovery Resources, which assists people with mental illness, alcoholism, and drug and other addictions.
