Area Giant Eagle Supermarkets have voluntarily withdrawn Valu Time canned pumpkin purchased on or before Aug. 30, and Food Club canned pumpkin from or prior to Oct. 28.
According to a statement from the grocery chain, the products were removed from store shelves as a precaution, not due to any immediate health concerns. “The market withdrawal was performed out of an abundance of caution as a result of the product not meeting quality standards,” the statement read.
Giant Eagle along with Topco Associates, LLC, the producer of Valu Time and Food Club items, is further investigating the situation, and will keep customers informed of any changes.
In the meantime, shoppers are asked not to consume the canned pumpkin in question, and to dispose of any opened or unopened packages, as well as items made with the product.
Customers are invited to receive a full refund, complimentary pie, or replacemnt baking ingredients from any Giant Eagle market.
