Good news for patrons of Westlake Porter Public Library: The library will be open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. beginning Aug. 5. That’s a month earlier than in previous years for the Sunday hours.
Porter will also remain open an additional hour, from 5 to 6 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays beginning Aug. 10.
Porter Director Andrew Mangels said the additional hours are being added to better serve the library’s customers.
“Patrons were asking for it,” he said.
The early start of school this year (Aug. 16) for Westlake City School District students due to construction on its new buildings was also a factor in opening on Sundays in August, Mangels said.
Porter’s board of trustees approved the additional hours at its June 20 meeting, Mangels said. Board members also indicated they will consider keeping the library open on Sundays throughout all of 2013, except for holidays.
Except for a slight increase in utility costs, the additional hours won’t cost the library any money, Mangels said. Librarians’ shifts will be rearranged to provide staffing for the new hours, he explained.
