The Westlake City Schools, the Westlake police and recreation departments, and the community outreach department of St. John Medical Center have joined forces to sponsor a community bike fair from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Westlake Recreation Center, 28955 Hilliard Blvd.
Activities for children include a bike rodeo so those in kindergarten through grade five can master their riding skills and learn about bike safety.
The Westlake police D.A.R.E. van will be on hand with raffles and educational information for children.
Technicians from Fairview Cycle will offer simple bike screenings.
More activities will take place inside the rec center’s community room, said Christie Wiedt, of St. John Medical Center’s community outreach program. Kids can win prizes while playing a bike card game. Young children can learn how to make emergency calls on a 911 simulator. Safety experts will also help kids make sure their bike helmets fit properly, Wiedt said.
The Westlake Police Department will be giving away a limited number of bike helmets to kids and adults. And the Lakewood Elks lodge will be giving away American flags in celebration of Flag Day.
