North Olmsted native named All-CSFL for second time

John Rodriguez

By Ryan Kaczmarski

North Olmsted native and Cornell sprint football player John Rodriguez has been named first team All-Collegiate Sprint Football League for the second year in a row.

The 2010 graduate of North Olmsted High School had four kicks of more than 45 yards this season, including a career-long kick of 49 yards. He was 7-14 overall on field goal attempts this year, including an impressive 4-6 from 40-49 yards. He was also a perfect 15 of 15 on extra point attempts and performed kick-offs for the Big Red. He was the leading scorer on the team in the 2012 campaign. He also won Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 3.

Rodriguez earned 11 varsity letters at North Olmsted High School. He played football for three years as a placekicker and spent all four years of high school on the soccer and track and field teams, serving as captain on both teams.

Since Cornell joined the league in 1937 through today, the spirit and purpose of Big Red sprint football has always remained the same — a varsity football program for the average-sized American male. It is collegiate football with one restriction, every player must weigh 172 pounds or less on Wednesday of a game week.
