A man who escaped from a jail in Missouri last month was spotted by an officer Tuesday morning in Westlake, police said. The department issued two text alerts to residents Tuesday afternoon advising anyone who sees him to call 911.

The 23-year-old man, Brian James Adkison, of Columbia, Mo., escaped Aug. 10 escapee from the Caldwell County Detention Center, police said. He faces charges of kidnapping, domestic violence and violating a temporary protection order, police said, and is also wanted in Boone County, Mo., for suspicion of rape and burglary. He is described as being six feet tall, 165 pounds, with short, light brown hair, brown eyes. , has a scruffy beard and was wearing black shorts and a light color t-shirt.

At 4:29 a.m. Tuesday morning, a Westlake patrolman tried to question a man later determined to be Adkison while he was sleeping in a pickup truck at the Hampton Inn on Detroit Road. The man took off westbound on Detroit Road into Avon near Avon Commons, where Westlake police called off the pursuit.

At 4:44 a.m., North Ridgeville police reported a pursuit of the same vehicle eastbound on Center Ridge Road. One of the truck’s tires had been deflated by their stop-sticks, they said. After the vehicle then became disabled on Center Ridge Road east of Dover Center Road in Westlake, the driver ran off, police said. Adkison was identified as the driver from evidence found in the truck, police explained. The Missouri man has a scruffy beard and was wearing black shorts and a light color t-shirt, police added.

With help from officers from North Olmsted, Rocky River and the Lorain County sheriff’s office, Westlake police continued searching unsuccessfully for Adkison in the vicinity until 10 a.m.

Police said Adkison is not known to be armed but warned that he is a wanted felon.
