Magnificat takes sectional gymnastics title

The Magnificat varsity gymnastics team took its first step to getting back to the state finals by finishing in first place at the Medina sectionals Saturday.

The Blue Streaks were led by junior Julia Corrao, who qualified for districts six times. Corrao won the floor exercise and added top-six finishes in the all-around, vault, uneven parallel bars and balance beam, to earn her five individual bids and one team bid to the West Geauga districts Feb. 22.

Also qualifying in all five events were three others, including Lakewood’s Grace Hinslea-Burke.

North Olmsted seniors Krissy Nash-Caraballo and Quinn Kacirek – returning state qualifiers – earned four district berths.

Nash-Caraballo was runner-up on the vault and placeds third on the bars, while Kacirek took fifth on the bars and 10th place on the floor.

Westlake’s Brianna Sokol finished third on the vault, while Avon Lake’s Ally Prince took 12th.

Four other Magnificat gymnasts qualified for the individual, as well as, team cometitions, including Jessica Androsik, who won the vault and earned three additional spots, Hannah Carpenter, who advanced in three events, Celeste Murman, who finishes in the top-5 in the beam and floor events, and Kasten Rini, who was 10th on the beam.
