Lakewood High School junior Wes Gerhardt had a career game on Friday, scoring 36 points in the Rangers’ 102-87 victory over host Bay High School.

Gerhardt was good on 11 3-pointers, and completed a 4-point play, when he was fouled in the fourth quarter, but still sank the long-range shot.

Gerhardt was followed in scoring by teammates Mike Angers, who had 14 points, and Jacob Schmidt (12), Nick Porter (11), and Logan Swift and Jaime Fesko, who each scored eight points.

The Rangers tallied 19 3-pointers in the game.

Lakewood jumped out to an early 27-15 lead going into the second quarter, but the Rockets clawed their way back into the game by scoring 22 second-quarter points to go into halftime down 47-37. The Rangers exploded in the second half, scoring 55 points, and putting the game away for good.

The victory keeps Lakewood undefeated in the West Shore Conference at 8-0 (11-2 overall).

The loss drops Bay to 4-4 in league play (6-7 overall).

The Rockets were led by sophomore Jon Koz, who scored 23 points, followed by Rex Sunahara (18), and Alec White and Jonathon Brajdic, who each had 15. All 15 of Brajdic’s points came via the 3-point shot.

Bay’s White and Lakewood’s Swift each tallied four personal fouls in the game.

Lakewood returns home with a matchup against conference foe North Ridgeville, while Bay hosts Vermilion on Friday.
