Gambrell picked as assistant coach of the year

Case Western Reserve University's Kirsten Gambrell has been named the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, announced the ITA on Tuesday. >  > In her first season with the program, Gambrell helped lead the Spartan women (12-9) to the first national ranking in program history and their best University Athletic Association finish (sixth) since 1997. >  > The Spartans, currently ranked No. 22 in the nation, will also be represented in NCAA Tournament play for the first time in team history when freshman Sara Zargham<http://athletics.case.edu/sports/wten/2012-13/bios/zargham%20sara%20f6p8> (Torrence, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) competes in the singles championship on May 23-25 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. >  > A former NCAA Division I standout at DePaul University (Ill.), Gambrell joined the staff at CWRU this summer following a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia.
