Police continue to search for motives in North Olmsted Home Depot shooting

By Jeff Gallatin

North Olmsted

Bond was set at $250,000 cash for a North Olmsted man who police said shot another North Olmsted resident he has known for several years in the parking lot of a Home Depot shortly before noon Tuesday.

James Robert Bekker, 34, was arraigned in Rocky River Municipal Court Wednesday morning on an attempted murder charge. It stemmed from an incident in the parking area of the Home Depot in the highly-

utilized Great Northern strip shopping center in which Peter David Schramm, 34, also of North Olmsted, was shot in the shoulder while in his vehicle.

Police said Bekker apparently came up unexpectedly on Schramm and shot him before fleeing. Schramm went into the Home Depot seeking help while also calling 9-1-1 seeking assistance. He remained in Fairview Hospital Wednesday being treated for his wound.

An Avon parmamedi saw the incident and wrote the license plate of the vehicle Bekker fled in. Police found it at Bekker’s home and arrested him there without incident. A gun was recovered as well.

North Olmsted Detective Sgt. Bob Wagner said police are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting but noted the two men have known each other for several years.
