The Bay Men’s Club recently “recycled” more than 175 pairs of athletic shoes and other sporting goods and raised more than $500 for scholarships for worthy Bay High students.

The group, under the direction of Sean Riley and Kelly Brewer, collected gently used soccer and other shoes, baseball mitts and other athletic equipment and offered the items for a $5 donation.

Equipment not sold was donated to a Lorain County youth association.

“Brothers Riley and Kelly came up with this fundraising idea last year, and it has really worked out well for the Bay Men’s Club, as well as parents who do not like to pay $80 every season for new soccer or baseball shoes,” President Eric Eakin said. “And we are sure that our donation of the unsold items will be put to good use.”
