It was a spectacular finish for the Bay girls cross country team as the Lady Rockets finished second overall at the Division II state meet Saturday. Bay finished with a final score of 119, just behind state champion St. Vincent-St. Mary (101) and ahead of third-place finisher Woodridge (141).

“Danielle Harkins and I are co-head coaches of the Bay girls cross country team and we are incredibly proud of the season they have had this year,” Bay co-head coach Anne Ashley said. “In a new division with new competition they handled all the new challenges well and we are so happy with their post season performance.”

Senior Maddie Britton led Bay with a time of 18:51.50 to finish ninth overall. Freshman Amanda Cusimano placed 15th overall with a time of 19:02.30.

“To have a freshman finish 15th, make the podium and get All-Ohio honors is a pretty incredible accomplishment,” Ashley said. “We are so proud of Amanda and all of the girls on the team. The seniors are a very special group and will be greatly missed.”

Sophomores Abby Christel and Olivia Bechtel and seniors Alyse Arko, Hallie Bechtel and Sarah Christel round out Bay’s roster.

The Rocky River placed 12th overall in the girls Division I competition, finishing with 257 points. Mason won the girls Division I state championship with 76 points. The Lady Pirates were led by Anna Brandt, Chloe Bierut, Nora McKeown, Ellen Corcoran, Elise Pichola, Laura DeVito and Terri Sack.
