Bassett Elementary School fourth-grader Marissa Wise was chosen as a soloist for the opening song at a performance of the Oberlin Choristers Children’s Honor Choir March 2 at Stocker Arts Center at Lorain County Community College. Bassett’s Honor Choir, which includes Wise, performed at the same concert.
Each year the Oberlin Choristers sponsors the concert, for which area music teachers in grades four through six are invited to train a select group of their students. The repertoire for this concert is chosen by a guest conductor with a goal of challenging young students to
expand their musical skills. This year’s Honor Choir consisted of more than 200 voices from 16 different schools in Lorain, Cuyahoga and Huron counties.
Sandra Mathias, professor emerita of music at Capital University and director of the Columbus Children’s Choir, led the Honor Choir.
