Professor to explain ‘why life sucks’

A native of New Delhi, India, who came to the U.S. in 1992, Param Srikantia spent years studying Eastern philosophies of life that have been largely forgotten. He will give a free talk on these philosophies titled “Why Life Sucks: Enjoying the Lightness of Being” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Cuyahoga Community College’s Westshore Campus, 31001 Clemens Road, in Westlake.

Moody’s reaffirms Fairview school district’s bond rating

The district’s five-year financial forecast indicates the district will end each fiscal year with a carryover balance, including a $10 million balance at the end of the 2021 school year. That means the district sees no need to request new operating funds from residents during the next five years. The five-year forecast assumes voters approve the renewal of an existing levy in 2018.

Student video supporting public schools wins award

The contest invited students to produce a 90-second video supporting the association’s campaign to “Stand Up For Public Schools.” OSBA launched the campaign in April 2014 to raise awareness about the importance of public schools and locally elected boards of education.
