For the 2013-14 school year, the district received a score of 106.8 out of a possible 120 in the performance index, which measures the test results of every student. The state gave that score a letter grade of B. The figure is up from 106.4 the previous year.
Of the 142 sophomores who took the Ohio Graduations Test last year, only 101 had been in the district since the end of their eighth-grade year. For the math test, 88.12 of those sophomores around since the eighth-grade passed, compared to 70.73 percent of sophomores who later transferred in.
The high school students assisted employees of the Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District in analyzing the health of Coe Creek. With Jared Bartley, the agency’s Rocky River Watershed Coordinator, the collected water samples in a search for macroinvertebrates, or creature without backbones that can be seen without a microscope. They found leeches, indicating the creek is healthy enough to sustain life.
On Oct. 3, 1914, Josephine Saxer Irwin, who later would become the first female on Fairview Park City Council, helped lead a parade of 7,000 women suffragists down Cleveland’s Euclid Avenue. Gloria Cipri-Kemer, owner of the Emerald Necklace Inn, has organized a luncheon for Oct. 3 at Fairview Park’s Gemini Center to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the march and Irwin’s life.
