‘Fort Lee Burneson’ marks 25 years of time travel

The annual May event, along with a field trip to Gettysburg National Military Park, the site of the famous battle, is the culmination of the eighth-graders’ study of the U.S. Civil War. Students don period costumes to take on the roles of Civil War soldiers and proper ladies of the era, as the school gymnasium becomes “Fort Lee Burneson” for a night.

Work needed to shore up Mastick Road

A section of Mastick Road, between West 210th Street and Eaton Road, will be closed in both directions later this summer for necessary repair work.

Consultant to study best location for community services center

Lifespan Design Studio has been given two tasks by the city. First, it will analyze the Community Services Department’s current and future needs, particularly in terms of space. Secondly, it will study whether to renovate and/or expand the current center, or build a new structure at another location. If new construction is preferred, the consultant will examine which location is preferable.

Relay teams bring cancer fight to Westlake High

Nine teams of volunteers will bring the fight against cancer to the athletic field at Westlake High School Saturday during the Westshore Relay For Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
