Parents question appropriateness of Blue and Gray cotillion

Parents of two African American students at Lee Burneson Middle School have raised questions about the appropriateness of the school’s annual Blue and Gray Cotillion. The event, at which students dress in Civil War-era clothing and participate in historical re-enactments, is designed to evoke the military cotillions of the era. Participation by students is voluntary.

Fairview teen awarded full scholarship to Harvard

Harvard University has long been considered among the top colleges in the country in terms of academic reputation. But Jaide Talmadge said Harvard’s the sense of community she experienced during a campus visit made it her college choice.

Brookpark Road bridge repair project begins

Repairs to the Brookpark Road bridge, which spans the Rocky River, were scheduled to begin May 30, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Individual lanes will be closed during the initial construction period, although traffic will be maintained, ODOT said.

Fairview students to launch robotics club

An organizational meeting of the Fairview Robotics Club will take place at 7 p.m. June 5 in Fairview High School’s Innovation Center. Students, parents and community members are invited to attend.
