Police give FHS seniors self-defense tips

The Fairview Park Police Department partnered with Fairview High School to help graduating seniors stay safe during their college years by teaching them basic self-defense measures April 17. Throughout the day, the English class period was replaced with a basic self-defense workshop taught by the police chief and several of his department’s officers, many of whom have advanced training in martial arts.

Friday is Arbor Day, the day on which people around the world celebrate the benefit of trees. But on Saturday, members of the Westlake Historical Society and the Westlake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will celebrate a different sort of tree – the family tree.

On stage at Westlake High School: The female “Odd Couple”

Westlake High School’s Center Stage Players present a female version of the Neil Simon play “The Odd Couple” at 7 p.m. April 22 through April 24 and at 2 p.m. April 25. Instead of the poker party that begins the original version, Ms. Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of Trivial Pursuit in this version. Tickets cost $7.

No public objections to retire/rehire of Palmer

During an April 13 Westlake City Schools Board of Education meeting, no one stepped forward to speak either for or against the prospect of rehiring of Interim Superintendent Geoff Palmer as the district’s leader for at least another year.
