Arthritis Foundation recognizes community leaders

In one of their many successful events, the local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation both raised funds and recognized some champions of their cause at a celebration on Thursday. Held at the Marriott at Key Center, the 2012 Community Leaders of the Year Award Dinner was jammed with 350 guests. Held on a weeknight, the event was tightly organized and executed without a hitch.

Guests began the evening with a social hour in the Marriott’s pre-function spaces. They also looked over some prime silent auction items and responded with brisk bidding. This is one sign of a successful event. Another sign was the large number of corporate sponsorship tables. A third was the presence of attendees of all ages. The local chapter is preparing for the future by encouraging younger people to participate.

Dinner was a model of efficiency, with both the salad and dessert already placed on the table. A program honored Bob and Sally Gries and Dan and Molly Walsh. The honorees have served the local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation as board members and benefactors. A short video served as an introduction to the always-successful “Fund a Need.” Guests raised auction paddles to make a 100 percent pure donation to the organization at whatever level they were comfortable with. Two live auction items closed the evening. The night was a financial success as well. Over $225,000 was collected for the work of the Great Lakes Region of the Arthritis Foundation.
