Applications for the Ward 2 City Council seat being vacated by Jim Connole are due Dec. 16. To qualify, a person must be eligible to vote in elections and have been a resident of Ward 2 for 18 months. The individual appointed will fill the remainder of Connole’s term ending Dec. 31, 2013.

Under the City Charter, the remaining members of Council appoint a person to fill a vacancy. The appointment shall be made within 30 days after the next regular meeting following notification of a vacancy. If Council fails to fill the vacancy, the mayor makes the appointment.

The annual salary of a ward councilman is currently $X,XXX.

Residents interested in the council job should forward a letter of interest and any appropriate autobiographical information to Denise L. Rosenbaum, Clerk of Council, 27700 Hilliard Boulevard, Westlake, OH 44145 by Dec. 15.

Council will discuss, at its regular meeting on Dec. 16, the schedule of interviews and other procedures to complete the process.

According to a statement from the Council office, applicants are urged to attend the daylong budget hearing, set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 11 at City Hall.

Questions regarding the application process may be addressed to the Rosenbaum
at the Council office at (440) 617-4053.

At Council’s Nov. 18 regular meeting, Connole announced his intention to resign after the Dec. 16 meeting, the final regular Council meeting of the year. Connole told West Life he was leaving due to personal and business commitments.

The last vacancy on Council was two years ago when Ward 6 Councilwoman Nan Baker resigned after being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. Six residents applied for that position, to which
Mark Getsay was appointed.
