If you missed out on obtaining mementos from the soon-to-be-demolished Westlake High School building at the district’s online auction last month, don’t worry.
The Westlake Historical Society purchased items during the auction and will offer them to the highest bidder in a silent auction as part of the organization’s antique, vintage and craft show. The annual event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday outside the Clague House Museum at 1371 Clague Road. The rain date is July 28.
The Westlake school package at the silent auction includes two student desks, a red brick from the old Red Brick School that once stood on Dover Center Road and a public address system classroom speaker. Additional sets of student chairs and desks will also be offered in the silent auction.
Another item of interest in the silent auction – a program on the 1941 Brooklyn Dodgers, who lost the World Series that year to the New York Yankees.
Thirty-five antique dealers and 25 crafters registered for the show as of last week, according to Lysa Stanton, president of the historical society.
“They come from all over Ohio,” she said of the vendors.
Stanton said she is encouraging those attending the show to visit the snack bar, which will be operated by K&K Portage Market. Hot dogs, chips and cold drinks will be served. A separate cold treats stand will sell ice cream sandwiches and popsicles.
A plant sale will accompany the antique show at the Clague House grounds. Tours of the museum and its current “Vintage Baby” exhibit will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Proceeds from the sale will be used by the historical society to purchase a specialized software package designed for museums, Stanton said.
“The public’s attendance makes what we do possible,” she explained.
