All are invited to “Getting to Know Our Muslim Neighbors: An Introduction to Islamic Beliefs and Practices” presented by Dr. Carl Sharif El-Tobgui, assistant professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies and director of the Arabic language program at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. The event will take place April 30 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rocky River United Methodist Church, 19414 Detroit Road, and is the annual Mary Anne and Richard Cavicchi Christian Education Seminar.
The speaker will begin with the historical background of the rise of Islam and the life of the Prophet Muhammad, then cover the nature and place of the Qur’an in Islam, basic beliefs and practices through an exploration of Islamic theology, law and spirituality; and Islam’s relationship to other religions.
This background lecture will lay the groundwork for a stimulating question-and-answer session, followed by group reflections over dinner and a final closing session. Call Rocky River United Methodist Church at 440-331-7676 for reservations, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
