A total of three girls from the Rocky River High School 2013 Division II state championship girls soccer team will be competing at the next level this fall, with one of them already attending college.

Seniors Grace Bennett and McKenna Klodnick will join Sydney “Abby” Elinsky – who graduated in January and now is a freshman at the University of Illinois – on college soccer fields.

Klodnick committed to play for the Marshall University Thundering Herd women’s soccer team.

She is a center-midfielder, who was a four-year starter and letter winner at Rocky River, as well as a two-year team captain. In 2013, she was named first team All-West Shore Conference, first team All-Greater Cleveland and a senior All-Star. This past fall, she scored 11 goals and had 31 assists (the most in Ohio, and second most nationally), and finished her high school career with 18 goals and 60 assists.

Klodnick has earned honor roll for every grading period at Rocky River High School. She also earned two varsity letters in basketball.

She is undecided on a major.

Bennett will be playing soccer for Elon University in North Carolina.

The four-year starter and letter winner was also a two-year captain. Bennett was also named to the All-Region IV team (Oh., Mich., Ind., Ky and WV), second team All-Greater Cleveland, and first team All-WSC last fall.

In 2013, Bennett scored 35 goals and had 23 assists, and totaled 82 goals and 46 assists for her high school career.

She was also a four-year member of the marching band and the National Honor Society. She earned two varsity letter in track also. She has not committed to a major, but plans on going into the medical field.

Elinsky is already on the Fighting Illini women’s soccer roster. After moving to Rocky River in her sophomore year, she earned three varsity letters for the Pirates. Her awards and accomplishments are too numerous to list in this story, but are highlighted by being named the 2013 OSSCA Ms. Soccer Ohio and the Gatorade Player of the Year for Ohio – both awards being presented to the most outstanding girls soccer player in the state, for all divisions.

Elinsky earned honor roll every grading period at Rocky River, and is currently undecided on a major.
