Celebrate the season and the silver anniversary of Great Lakes Brewing Co. (GLBC) at Table 45 restaurant at the InterContinental Cleveland at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12.
Chef Eddie Tancredi from Table 45 and a chef from GLBC will be creating a five-course menu, while educating guests about GLBC beer and pairing food with beers. The dinner, prepared in honor of the brewery’s 25th anniversary, begins with tortilla soup paired with Eliot Ness Amber Lager. Grape terrine with goat cheese frisee will be accompanied by Dortmunder Gold Lager, while barbecued oysters with spinach and carrot slaw and creamy bleu cheese will be served with Burning River Pale Ale. The entree of braised beef short ribs with gremolata and brown butter potatoes will be complemented by Christmas Ale. Jack Daniels pecan tart with vanilla bean ice cream on caramelized pineapple will be served with Blackout Stout. The cost for the dinner is $60 a person, plus tax and tip. Seating is limited. Join Santa Claus for breakfast followed by a movie at the new Regal Cinema at Great Northern Mall on Dec. 14. The event starts early at 7 a.m. in the dining court and will feature a hot breakfast catered by Subway, plus donuts, crafts and an appearance by Santa Claus and live reindeer. As part of the cinema’s grand opening weekend, families will be treated to a free screening of a fun, family-friendly film at 9 a.m. Tickets are $5 each and are available at Santa’s Sleigh in the mall’s center court, or at the mall management office.
Play elf architect for a day and take home some great prizes in the second annual Gingerbread House Contest at the Great Lakes Brewing Company Tasting Room on Dec. 16.
Teams of five builders each get to show off their candy crafting skills. Each team will have from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to create an original gingerbread structure made from portioned gingerbread and a help-yourself toppings buffet of GLBC stickers, beer bottles, coasters, bottle caps and candy. During the competition Christmas music will fill the tasting room, and light appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Last call will be at 8:30 p.m., when the winners are announced.
The first-, second- and third-place teams will win prizes, including GLBC gift cards and other surprises. Builders may choose to take their gingerbread house home or leave it on display in the brewpub. Registration is online only, at a cost of $30 a team. Only one team representative should register. The Ironwood Cafe, 688 Dover Center Road in Westlake, is having its annual Ironwood Customer Appreciation event on Dec. 20. A free appetizer buffet will be served from 4 to 7 p.m., and guests can sample beers from various featured breweries.
