Santa arrives in Bay Village for community Christmas event

Santa Claus arrived at the Bay Village Community House in a big, red fire truck and spent time greeting the children.

Santa Claus came to Bay Village on Dec. 8, kicking off the holiday season.

Delighted throngs of youngsters and their parents lined the streets as Santa made his way through the city aboard a big, red fire truck. Santa departed the Bay Lodge at 2 p.m. and traveled throughout Bay Village on his way to the Community House in Cahoon Memorial Park. The Bay Village Education Foundation, Dwyer Senior Center and the Knickerbocker Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution set up decorated trees along Rose Hill Lane to welcome Santa to his destination.

Several community groups set up tables in the Community House offering holiday items and complimentary refreshments. The groups included the Bay Village Women’s Club, Lake Erie Nature & Science Center Women’s Board, Bradley Bay Health System, the Green Team, the Village Project, BAYarts, Team Reilly, Bay Men’s Club and the Bay Village Historical Society. The Bay High Choraleers provided musical entertainment. Huntington Playhouse Director Tom Meyrose delivered a rousing rendition of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

After greeting children at the Community House and accepting their wish lists, Santa joined Mayor Deborah Sutherland at the gazebo in the park to light the community Christmas tree. Mayor Sutherland presented Santa Claus with a key to the city. The holiday tree was decorated by the Bay High Key Club and by Mrs. Shiry’s Bay Village kindergarten class.

Bay Village residents celebrated the holidays by lighting luminaries throughout the city that evening.

The Cahoon Community Christmas event was co-sponsored by the Bay Village Historical Society and the Bay Kiwanis.
