Magnificat High School’s golf team went into the Division I sectional tournament at Legacy Sweetbriar Golf Club last Thursday and dominated the field, winning with a low team score of 307.
“We’ve been fortunate that the core group of our team – the first four players – have been on the varsity team for several years now,” Blue Streaks head coach Rick Norris said. “We’ve been working hard all year to play well and improve on how we played last year.”
Magnificat junior Jillian Hollis earned medalist honors with a low round of 69. The other Blue Streaks had very low rounds as well, with senior Ali Nageotte shooting a 76, followed by Cara Kelley (79), Caroline Bello (83) and Lauren Winterhalter (91).
“Our No. 1 player, Jillian Hollis, was out with an injury for most of the year, so all the other girls have been working really hard to keep the scores low,” Norris said. “We’re very luck that our No. 2, Ali, would be a No. 1 on almost any other team. Even our No. 3, Cara Kelley, is good enough to be a No. 1 on many other school’s team. We’re very fortunate to have all three of them on one team.”
