Avon adult co-ed volleyball

The Avon Parks and Recreation Department is now taking registrations for the fall 2013 co-ed adult volleyball league. Games will be played on Sunday evenings Sept. 15–Dec. 8 at Avon Middle School. Game start times are 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 pm. Registration fees are $75 per team. A $10 official fee per team must be paid at game time. All players must be 18 years or older. Avon Lake softball camp

A softball camp run by Shoregals coach Brian Mullen will take place at the Avon Lake High School fields Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Sept. 22 and Sept. 29. Cost is $12 per session. The camp is available for ages 5-7 (3-4:15 p.m.), 8-10 (4:30-5:45 p.m.) and 11-3 (6-7:15 p.m.). Registration forms are online at the Avon Lake High School website under the “Athletics” tab.
Avon Lake youth basketball tryouts

Registration is open for travel basketball tryouts for boys and girls entering grades 4-6. Tryouts will be held Sept. 7 and 8 at Troy Intermediate School. Players do not need to bring a basketball. Tryout times Sept. 7 are 8:30-10:30 a.m. (sixth-grade boys); 11 a.m. To 1 p.m. (fifth-grade girls); 1:30-3:30 p.m. (sixth-grade girls). Tryout times for Sept. 8 are 8:30-10:30 a.m. (fourth-grade girls); 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (fourth-grade boys); 1:30-3:30 p.m. (fifth-grade boys). Avon Lake Preschool Sports classes

Preschool sports classes are designed for children ages 3-4 and 5-6 who are currently enrolled in preschool through kindergarten. Tots will learn the basics of the sport, physical fitness and have fun. Classes are 45 minutes long with up to 25 students per class. Registration is first-come, first-served. Location is the Avon Lake United Church of Christ (32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake). Cost is $50 per participant, per session. A $5 discount is available for two or more children from the same family. A late registration fee is $5 if paid later than seven days before the first class. Classes are held once a week for five weeks. Shoremen football clam bake

Join your fellow Avon Lake football fans at all levels for the Shoremen Football Clam Bake, hosted by the Avon Lake Father/Son Football Club. The event is open to all and will take place Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Sweetbriar Golf Course pavilion. For $40, each person will receive a dozen clams, chicken, potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, clam chowder, desserts and all refreshments including beer and wine. Registration is now taking place for the fall 2013 and spring 2014 Avon Lake Soccer Organization’s (ALSO) in-house recreational soccer program. This program is open to all children who are residents of Avon Lake between the ages of 5 and 13. Players must be 5 years old by July 31, 2013. Fees are $95, which includes the cost of both the fall 2013 and spring 2014 sessions and a T-shirt. Bay Challenge Cup registration

The Bay Soccer Club is hosting its 36th annual Bay Challenge Cup soccer tournament Labor Day weekend. The tournamentwill host boys and girls teams from U8 to U15 age groups and be played on 37 fields throughout the city of Bay Village. Teams from all across Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Canada will be represented. Sunrise Youth Sports (formerly REM-Tots Soccer) is taking registration for the first session of the fall youth soccer program. The Tiny Tots program, for ages 3-4, is an introduction to soccer, while the Inter/Advanced Tots program, for ages 4-6, is for children with some knowledge of soccer.
